Restyle, Recycle and Reuse a T-Shirt

When big ideas and don’t work out there is always a solution… right? Do you guys remember my Gingers Unite Print?

Well…. I turn it into a t-shirt. There is no such thing as once size fits all, so I had to put my problem solving skills to use. Here is the back story…..

My two red headed little boys, my husband and I spent this past Father’s Day at the beach. We were lucky to have been invited by my father in-law a.k.a. “Big Red”. I thought it would be a fantastic idea to get the “Gingers Unite” image printed on a t-shirt for the three of them. It would also act as a Father’s Day gift for “Big Red”. I had it my head it would make a great family photo opportunity.

I upload my Gingers Unite image to Custom Ink and created a t-shirt for “Big Red” and the “Little Reds”. It did not take long to receive the order and the print quality was really nice. Here is Knox in his shirt.

The only problem was that the smallest youth size was huge on my toddler, Bryce. No problem, I had a quick fix that I wanted to share with you guys.

Restyle, Recycle and Reuse a T-Shirt

The first step is to cut the image out of the ill fitting t-shirt. You can also do this for shirts that are too small.

Pin the image to a shirt that fits. I have used a complementary color in the past, but for this project I used a 2T white T-shirt. Then with my sewing machine, I attached the cut-out image from the too large shirt to the properly fitting shirt. T-shirt material doesn’t typically fray so you don’t have to worry about hemming.

The cute family photo opportunity did not happen exactly like I had in my mind. It never does, right? There was crazy wind and by the time everyone was dressed in their shirts, Bryce was tired and ready for bed. At least “Big Red” is not crying.

The boys wore their shirts the next day and I captured a few good shots. When Bryce grows out of the 2T, I will simply remove the image and sew it to another (larger) shirt. I do this trick with a lot of their shirts. You know, like the “Birthday Boy” shirt you purchased for last years birthday. I cut “Birthday Boy” out and sew it to another shirt. Easy Peasy.

As you can tell, I have a thing for foxes.
