Pink Flamingo Pumpkin

Hi Friends!

So, I have had so much fun working on this little project. What could be better than power tools and pumpkins? I have also teamed up with Rockwell to host an awesome giveaway. I have the pleasure of giving away (1) Sonicrafter F50 to one lucky reader, but first let me introduce you to my little friend.

Pink Flamingo Pumpkin

You guys know that I have a house full of boys and love them dearly. But sometimes I want a little something girlie and why not a pink flamingo pumpkin. So here is how I created my Pink Flamingo Pumpkin.

Materials

Who says I don’t know how to party?

Materials for Pink Flamingp Pumpkin

The pink flamingo was pretty tired and I hand sanded off the old decorative paint on its face and beak.

I am a real fan of the Sonicrafter F50 Osculating tool. You can sand, cut wood, metal and plastic with this little guy and it is not too heavy. As you know, I am somewhat selfish about my tools and am absolutely will keep this under lock and key.

For this project, we used the osculating tool to cut off the head of the flamingo and to carve the wing cut-out into the pumpkin.

To attach the flamingo head to the pumpkin we drilled a little hole in the pumpkin and inserted a wood dowel. Then we used a screwdriver to attach the head of the flamingo the the dowel. This gave that big old flamingo head some extra stability. Mr. Paper Planes NYC was fully equipped with a beer, lightsaber , sword and flashlight for this part of the project.

With a washable magic marker I drew wings on to my pumpkin. I did some initial cutting with the Sonicrafter and I couldn’t resist to test the spray paint color. Love it!

wings I had fun shaping the wings (one on each side). I also cut a little hole in the bottom of the pumpkin so that I can insert battery operated tea lights. Don’t forget to wear safety goggles.SonicrafterF50 After I was satisfied with the wings I applied my pink spray paint. I also added a little black paint to the eye. A girl always has to accentuate her eyes. I used the metal poles (legs) that came with the original pink flamingo lawn ornament and poked them through the underneath of the pumpkin. What a fun idea. I love it, very creative! I might have to sacrifice one of my tired old flamingoes to a project like this. I was just coveting a flat metal flamingo at Joann Fabric and Crafts as it was for Halloween and if I recall correctly, was painted like a skeleton so maybe I’ll have to incorporate that paint job. So many ideas, thanks for the inspiration!
