Touring Blogland - Come on in Y’all

Hi Friends,

I am excited to be a part of a little tour going around “Blogland”. It basically gives you a little behind the scene peek at Paper Planes NYC. Bre from Average But Inspired invited me along and I will pass it on to some awesome bloggers at the end of my post. So, come on in and make yourself comfortable.

My Happy Home

Here is where I work, live and play. I live in Charlotte, NC in a 1950’s brick ranch. It rained a lot last week so our bushes are kind of out of control. We are the 3rd owners of this home and really love it.

doormat in action

You will see a lot of my front door in photos on Paper Planes NYC. I get a lot of questions about the green door, and how I did it. The door was already here when we purchased the home. It it was lured us inside.

baby mama

Welcome to my life. I am a “Baby Mama”,wife, artist and always on the move.

Make your own Baby Mama Gloves with this tutorial.

Here is my family. Top Row - Me and Bryce. Bottom Row-Knox and David. These dudes keep me busy and make huge messes, but I love them dearly.

Our home decor is always a work in progress.

I just finished painting my fireplace a few weeks ago.

Livingroom

This is my living room. It is pretty simple. I am not a huge fan of rugs because I think they hide dirt and grime, but I realize that this room needs one. I just haven’t found the perfect one yet. The large painting on the wall is by Joanna Wardell.

This my son Knox, working at his art/snack table in the living room. The painting is by Steve Chellis.

Paper & Fox World Headquarters

This is my office and the “world headquarters” of Paper Planes NYC. You will remember my Lady Desk that I painted last year. My goal was to always work in my office, but I work all over the house. Wherever I can keep a good eye on my boys.

Porch Pool

Last, but not least this is my classy above ground Porch Pool…complete with a floating basketball goal. We use this pool a lot. The boys and their friends think it is pretty cool. It is a bonus not to have to keep applying sunscreen on my redheads.

As part as the Tour Through Blogland I was asked to answer the following questions:

1. What am I working on?
The past couple of weeks I have been working on paintings. I go through these spurts where I am really focused on one thing. It could be furniture, jewelry, sewing, but I have been thinking about creating art pieces that could be incorporated into other future projects.

Little Miss Donut by Paper & Fox

Here is a painting that I just finished called “Little Miss Doughnut”.

2. How does my work differ from those in my genre? I guess my work is classified in the DIY/Crafts/Décor genre. I am always of thinking of ways to create beautiful functional pieces, designs and accessories for little cost. I am a big upcycle fan and love the challenge of transforming a tossed or donated item into a gem. I also don’t think I take myself too seriously. I know what I am, but more importantly I know what I am not. I am not that “cool” and not always perfectly polished, but I have a great eye for color and design and a sense of humor.

3. Why do I write/create what I do? If you were to ask me a few years ago if I ever thought I would have a career in writing and publishing, I would have laughed. I could have never dreamed that I would have allowed myself, thoughts and projects to be put on display for the world to view and possibly criticize. Once I took the first leap, there was no looking back. I am absolutely in love with blogging and Paper Planes NYC. I only work on projects and write about things that make me happy. That is the simple formula. I provide tips, tutorials and ideas on how to create beautiful things. What a fantastic topic to focus on, right?
4. How does your writing/creative process work? I sometimes have a process and I sometime do not. My goal is to sit down with my calendar and plan projects and post throughout the month. I can sometimes make this happen. Mostly, my process is to be flexible and seize time to work anytime it is given. I work well early in the morning and can knock out post and projects before the kids wake up. I am absolutely useless after 8pm.

Touring Blogland has been so much fun.

Ok. I’m obsessed by your house! When I lived in LA I looked for something similar (externally) for YEARS. No lie. It just reminds me of home!
