The Great Upcycle Challenge- Gritgoods

Hi Friends,

This is the final project from The Great Upcycle Challenge.

This challenge was to transform a previously owned item into a great upcycled treasure. The item could be one that was acquired from a vintage store, thrift store, or antique store. It could also use an item that you found abandoned on the side of the road. The cost of the item and materials used to transform the upcycle couldn’t exceed $15.00. Monday, I showed you how I upcycled a “left for trash table” to a really stylish piece of furniture. On Wednesday Griffin showed you how to turn woodland creatures into towel holders.

Today Margaret Goodson of Gritgoods Jewelry will show you how she turned kitchen cabinets to a jewelry display that she could use at home or to display her jewelry at a store. Margaret creates genuine stone clusters, unique links with unlikely pairings of stones and accents. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

So, it was very clever of Margaret to create a piece that she could actually use for her business. Now, it’s time for the Gritgoods upcycle.

I am Margaret of Gritgood and this is my upcyle…

I picked up these panels from the Re-store down the street. They are old kitchen cabinet doors. I wanted something white and solid wood so I could put nails in it.

Process:

Sand and prime each panel.
Use tape and poster board to cover up panels.

Spray paint with metallic silver and let dry.

Print logo and cut out with scissors.

Carefully place onto boards, cover and tape again then spray paint blue.

Turn over and screw on hinge.

Hammer in nails.

Hang jewelry

Materials:

old cabinet doors x2 = 5.00

spray paint x2 = 8.00

hinges (pack of 2) = 2.00

nails - already owned

Plans: I can use this as display anywhere: in my home for my personal collection; in a store display; or for booth display for an arts festival.
