Hi Friends!
It’s still Whale Week at Paper Planes NYC. Monday, I shared my Whale Tote Bag and today I will show you how to make some really cute whale glasses. Mason jars, whales and vinyl, oh my.
This is a really easy tutorial on making your own vinyl decals that you can add to anything, including drinking glasses.
Whale Mason Jug
I do not have a cricut design and cut machine. It just not in my budget right now. This project is done the old fashion way… with scissors.
I love mason jugs. I am attempting to cut back on my plastic use and I am pretty clumsy. A mason jug is right up my alley. I had two of these guys lying around and I knew that they should be involved in “Whale Week”.
I picked a roll of Cricut Vinyl in Midnight from the craft store.
I used a little whale sticker that my boys had laying around as my template.
I traced the sticker on the vinyl and used SCISSORS to cut the whale shapes. I cleaned the outside of the mason jars with rubbing alcohol. Then, I simply removed the backing from the vinyl and attached the whales to the jugs.
I have done some research, and allegedly the decals will hold up in the dishwasher. It was a really simple way to personalize my little mason jugs. My mind is running with all the amazing things that I can create with the vinyl.
Initials, animals, vehicles, skylines… I am pumped! I will keep you posted on how it holds up.
Cheers!

Yay! Whale Week continues and this is another cutie project; also, even though I have a Silhouette, sometimes it’s WAY faster and easier just to go the old-fashioned route with scissors or an exacto knife like you did here. Ain’t no need to complicate things! Well done, Carmody.
Thank you so much Lauren. I am not going to pretend that I wouldn’t love a silhouette, but sharp scissors are a great tool. Happy Memorial Day.
super easy and super cute! wondering if I can cut a flamingo with scissor…

Hi there just curious, how did the vinyl hold up in the dishwasher?
This are too cute, we mostly use mason jars at my house and I cant wait to do this!
Sonia, the vinyl has totally held up. We have washed them on the top and bottom row in the dishwasher on all different settings.
Awesome thanks!!
