I have been drowning in holiday, school, and life tasks this week. Whew! I am betting that a lot of you can relate. For my son’s classroom holiday party I have volunteered to do an activity with the kindergarteners. I have been brainstorming on ideas and decided that DIY Salt Dough Ornaments would be perfect. Yesterday, I started creating the ornaments for the class party. Today I decided to create one for myself, a modern twist on the salt dough ornament. My black and white dough ornament is shamefully easy to make that it would be silly not to give it a try. * Just a reminder, these are not edible.

Modern Salt Dough Ornament | Black & White Style

So here is what you need to make salt dough ornaments.

4 cups of Flour

1 cup of Salt

1 1/2 Warm Water

• Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
• Mix flour and salt well. Gradually add water, stirring with a large spoon. Finish mixing with hands. Knead until soft and pliable.
• Roll out on floured surface about 1/8 inch thick. Cut shapes with cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheets. With a toothpick make a hole in the top of the ornament for threading string. Bake at 325 degrees F until hard, about 1 hour. Decorate, paint, draw and varnish to preserve.

I made a lot! Once they were cooled off, I painted a star-shaped ornament with white acrylic paint. Then with a sharpie marker I drew little lines.

Crazy easy right? Once it was done I strung a piece of black ribbon through the hole that I created with the toothpick.
