Hi Friends,
A couple weeks ago I attended a hand paper making class at SpaceCraft Studios here in Charleston. I have taken a ton of craft and art classes, but have never taken a paper making class….. can you believe Paper Planes NYC never took a class on paper making?
My clever husband understood my paper making void and gave the class to me for Mother’s Day. I was super excited to learn something new and meet new creatives in the area.
Paper Making at SpaceCraft Studios
The class was taught by Kris Westerson at SpaceCraft Studios. I had the pleasure of taking the class and enjoying a crafternoon with Allison, the owner of SpaceCraft Studios. We learned about the pulping process , coloring pulp with pigments (pink and gold were my favs), pulling and designing sheets to make create handmade paper.
My favorite part of the process was absolutely creating designs on the paper
pigmented cotton pulp using grids.
Paper making was a messy, wet and interesting craft. I really liked the look of the grids and geometric designs. Here are some of my favorites.
So, if you live in Charleston I highly recommend checking out the classes at SpaceCraft Studios. There is a skateboard design class that I might have to sign my oldest son up for.
Also, if you are interested in learning how to create handmade paper or sharpening your skills, check out classes from the award winning hand papermaker, Kris Westerson.
XOXO Carmody
