Happy Holidays!
So, first let me say that I am not a Thanksgiving hater. I consider the time of year between mid October to mid January as “The Holidays”. It is my favorite time of year and I try to enjoy it as long as possible. I know that a lot of people become upset with stores setting up Christmas decorations in October. They feel like Thanksgiving is completely looked over because it is not a consumer influenced holiday. You know what, I don’t care. I am ready to bring out the Christmas Spirit and am not going to let Thanksgiving get in my way.
Going from Halloween to Christmas
Putting religious implications aside, Christmas is just more fun. Don’t get me wrong, I love what Thanksgiving stands for… sharing a meal with the ones we love and care about. Reflecting on what we have in our lives to be thankful for and celebrating it. These are all great things. I am all for that, I just prefer Christmas Decor, traditions and celebrations to Thanksgiving. Food aside, it is hard to be politically correct when preparing Thanksgiving crafts and projects. My job is to make crafts, art, and decor related projects. I don’t feel comfortable posting an article about creating a Native American headdress for my boys to wear for Thanksgiving. Let’s face it, who wants to dress like Pilgrim? Not attractive attire.
There are only so many things that you can make into a turkey without going crazy.
I love traditions and crafting. That is what makes Christmas special for me. It is the only time of year that I can paint everything I own gold and not look like a crazy person. I can have colorful lights zig-zagged in our bushes and a giant reindeer in my yard. It is about installing memories and magic for my boys. That is why I am going from Halloween to Christmas without looking back.
As an adult, I love walking into a store filled to the limit with holiday wreaths, lights, ornaments and colors. My goal as a Mom is to provide some holiday magic and memories and starting in October gives me more time to fit it all in.
Why would I wait a whole month to decorate when I am ready to decorate now? I am ready to eat homemade Fudge and watch kids crack up at the movie “Elf”. That is why I say bring on the Christmas Season. The longer, the better.
XOXO Carmody
I think we should just put a tree now, and still eat a big Thanksgiving meal as phase one and let the holiday season be eight weeks…and Christmas the finale. It would make us all happier and less stressed.
I’m totally on board! I decorate my house and the church, so I have to start early. I’ll be putting up my inside decor, including the trees, this week. There was a time when I always put the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving. Looking back, it just wasn’t up long enough for all of that hard work. Thanksgiving dinner is always more fun and festive with the trees lit!
Alli you are right. It is a lot of work not to to keep it up long enough to enjoy it.
“I don’t feel comfortable posting an article about creating a Native American headdress for my boys to wear for Thanksgiving.” Yeah, unless you’re Native American, wearing the headdress is just so inappropriate. Hope I won’t see any tutorials like that this year!
I couldn’t agree more - let the Christmas crafting and decorating begin!
I love Christmas! I always put up my Christmas decorations prior to Thanksgiving. We have our traditions for Thanksgiving and love spending the holiday with family, but I just feel that Christmas deserves more time.
I don’t mind going from Halloween to Christmas either this year. In the past I’ve wanted to wait until after Thanksgiving to really get into Christmas, but this year I’m ready for Christmas. Maybe it’s because my six year old has been talking about Christmas all year. I don’t know but I’m ready to listen to my favorite Christmas tunes and bake some cookies
I babysat the night before Halloween, and we watched Elf! It’s never too early for the Christmas spirit, but I do get frustrated with the stores trying to profit off of that Christmas spirit a whole two months before the holiday!
I love Elf…anytime of year.
usually I’m like make it stop make it stop with the Christmas immediately after Halloween, but this year I’m all for it! I’m not crafty, but I agree with you… let’s just get to the good stuff!
I am totally with you Aria!
I couldn’t agree more! I love decorating for the holidays and there are just too many ideas and projects for me to wait until after Thanksgiving.
