According to the Chinese Zodiac Calender, 2014 is the year of the horse. In many cultures, horses are symbolic for strength, energy and beauty. What’s not to like? I created this piece of art in honor of 2014 being the ” year of the horse”. The horse shape is created with dots of paint applied with a pencil eraser.
Materials used
- Wood board
- White spray-paint
- Acrylic paints
- Painter’s tape
- Pencil
- Marker
- Scissors
With white spray-paint, I applied a thin layers paint. The key to spray painting is several thin layers. While the paint dried, I hunted for images of horses on the internet. I taped 4 pieces of card stock paper together and drew a horse from a few different images. You can also simply print and trace an image of a horse.
Once the painted board was dry, I used a pencil eraser dipped in acrylic paint to apply paint dots to the board.
I only applied dots to the area where I was planning to place the card stock horse shape.
I allowed the painted dots to dry completely. Using scissors, I cut horse out of the card-stock paper. I applied painter’s tape to one side of the card stock horse and placed the horse on top of the painted dots.
With several light coats of white spray-paint, I covered the entire board, horse and dots.
There you have it…
I love this! The dots are such a cool look. Never would have thought of this. I think it would look good in any room of the house. Great job.
Thanks Judy!
This is so pretty! My daughter would love this in her room!
Thanks Shannon! This would also be a good project for your daughter to help out with. My five year old helped me with the dots.
I love how this turned out and the colors that you used too! Thanks for sharing at The Makers!
Thanks Katie!
