I love bold colors and simple design when it comes to my accessories. I am not a fancy lady and do not require fancy adornments, but I do love creating interest. I whipped up this necklace one afternoon and have loved it ever since.

DIY Hexagon Necklace

This is a really fun DIY necklace project. This hexagon necklace would work well with a t-shirt or a dress. The hexagons are made out of die-cut wood veneer so it is super lightweight.

Materials Needed

• Wood Veneer Shapes
• Scissors
• Tiny nail
• Nail File/sand paper
• Hammer
• Needle nose Pliers
• Paint ( spray-paint or any kind of paint in your desired color)
• Jump Rings
• Chain (or a necklace chain that you already have)

I originally purchased the pack of wood veneer shapes and numbers for my 2014 headband. I decided to use the remaining shapes to create jewelry. Wood veneer is thin and easy to cut with regular scissors.

I determined the size of the necklace pendant I wanted and cut the wood veneer. Then I used a nail file to gently file any rough edges.

Using a tiny nail and a hammer, I carefully hammered a hole through the wood for a jump ring. Be careful not to split the wood. I used 2 coats of turquoise spray-paint to cover the hexagons. Once the paint was completely dry, I inserted a jump ring through the hole I created by the tiny nail. With needle nose pliers I closed the jump ring and added a necklace chain.

I also made a red hexagon necklace that lays horizontal. To create this necklace you would need to add 2 holes and 2 jump rings. Then you would attach a chain to each jump ring and a closure clasp.

Really pretty and really simple. The red necklace would be perfect to wear on when you want to spice up your look.
